My interest in photography first started when playing around with my dad’s camera on family vacations. There was something satisfying about hearing that shutter click, and then getting to see the images you produced at our family slide shows months later.
As I grew up, I started to find that I was constantly in some of the most beautiful places in the world. This started with my University Career in 2006. The University of Calgary is located just one hour from the famous rocky mountains of Canada. Shortly after graduating from University, I started my job in Banff, Alberta Canada. Working for CMH Heli-Skiing was by far one of the most inspiring times that really kicked off my photography inspiration. Working with great photographers, professional film crews, and travelling through some of the most beautiful mountains in the world via helicopter sure made for some unbelievable opportunities. It also gave me the opportunity to meet some of my current role models such as Jimmy Chin, Renan Ozturk, Anson Fogel, Mike Douglas, Alex Obrien, and Bruno Long.
Currently I reside in North Vancouver, British Columbia. It is a great base for adventure, with Whistler in my back yard and the ocean just a block away. My day job finds me working as a consultant for Traction on Demand, where I am constantly finding creative and innovative cloud computing solutions for companies all over the world.
So, you might ask, what is my current relationship with photography, and where do I ultimately see it leading? Well, it’s an interesting question, because I really don’t have an answer! All I know is that I have a very interesting push/pull relationship with my camera at this point in time. Some days, I feel as though it drags me off of the couch and provides me reason to go out and explore, where as other days, I find I am the one dragging it along as I am motivated to bag a peak or explore a new trail. I do not think I will ever dedicate my entire life to photography, and I certainly never want to rely on it to put a roof over my head or food on the table. Mind you, if National Geographic calls with a spot for a staff photographer, it might be hard to turn that one down!
You can find me on my website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, 500px, and of course this blog. I hope to update this blog with some regularity, as I usually have a pretty good story behind many of the images that I capture. But most importantly, you can find me behind my camera, generally in the mountains, where I am happiest!
Having a full time job, my intent for this blog is to post pictures frequently, and as often as possible. Sometimes my posts will be brief, sometimes they will not make sense, sometimes you will love them. My one promise is that the images will ALWAYS be good. At least in my opinion… Photography is subjective. I will post pictures, stories, gear, thoughts, and links. I hope you enjoy following along!
